A microchip is roughly the size of a grain of rice and is inserted under the skin between your pet’s shoulder blades using a needle. The process is similar to receiving a vaccine.
The chip contains a number that, upon registration, is linked to an account with your personal information. If your pet ever gets lost and is brought into a vet’s office, shelter, rescue, etc., they will be scanned for a chip. The scanner will display the chip’s registration number, which can then be used to look up your information. As long as you keep this information up-to-date, someone will contact you to reunite you with your pet.
